Offshore staff
ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Saipem has contracted Keppel Verolme for an upgrade/maintenance program for the semisumersible Scarabeo 6. The rig should arrive at the yard in spring for a stay of six months.
Work will include upgrading drilling capabilities to a water depth of 1,200 m (3,937 ft); prefabrication and installation of deck extensions; and renewal of traction winches, cable spooling winches and double riser tensioners.
A new storage area for risers will be built and new sponsons and blisters will be installed both to accommodate the new winches and to enhance buoyancy and stability. Additionally, the accommodation will be refurbished.
Keppel Verolme had overhauled the vessel in 1998.
Earlier in 2011, Keppel FELS in Singapore delivered Scarabeo 9, a new sixth generation ultra-deepwater semisubmersible rig, to Saipem.
Currently Keppel is completing a newbuild pipelay vessel, Castorone, for the same company. This program is being handled jointly by Keppel Shipyard and Keppel Singmarine.
Additionally Keppel Verolme is performing a survey and repair program on the S44, a barge for post-trenching and backfilling of pipelines.
