Lamprell commissions jackup protection anodes

CHESTERFIELD, UK – Cathelco is supplying seawater pipework anti-fouling systems for four new jackups under construction in the Middle East.
Lamprell Energy is building the LeTourneau-design Super 116E (Enhanced) rigs at its Hamriyah yard in the UAE for the National Drilling Co. (NDC) of Abu Dhabi.
Cathelco’s systems are designed to eliminate blockages in seawater lines caused by barnacles and mussels. They comprise copper and aluminium anodes wired to a control panel.
The copper anodes generate ions which create an environment that prevents barnacle and mussel larvae from settling and growing. Ions produced by the aluminium anodes suppress corrosion on the pipes’ internal surfaces.
On each of the NDC rigs, the Cathelco system are intended to protect the lines from three pumps via anodes mounted directly into 10-in. diameter pipes, using pipe upstands.
This arrangement draws the copper ions directly in the flow of seawater to maximize their effectiveness. Changeout of anodes can be completed in less than 30 minutes.
All the latest orders were placed by Nico International Dubai, Cathelco’s agent in the UAE.
