STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has decided to change the sailing routes from supply bases in southern Norway to its platforms in the North Sea. This follows several years of studies aimed at optimizing use of supply vessels and bases.
Currently, supply vessels sail from bases in Florø, Mongstad, Ågotnes, and Dusavik. The routes stem from the period when there were three Norwegian operators (Saga, Hydro, and Statoil) in charge of the installations served.
Statoil claims that adapting and streamlining the sailing routes will lead to savings of around $42 million per year, and an annual reduction of 20,000 metric tons (22,046 tons) of carbon dioxide emissions.
The changes will also increase supply activity from Dusavik and Mongstad, while decreasing activity from the other two ports. However, Florø will become Statoil’s dedicated base for pipes (casing), while Ågotnes will take on this role for the company’s subsea equipment.
Statoil hopes to push through the changes during 2015, when it enters into new base contracts.
