MEXICO CITY – Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement’s (BSM) Mexico-based Ship Management Centre has begun management of Reforma Pemex, the first of two offshore flotel accommodation vessels owned by Petroleos Mexicanos International and chartered to the Mexican national oil company PEMEX.
The news followed a two-year period of plan approval and newbuild supervision services provided by BSM’s project-focused business, Schulte Marine Concept.
Set to begin operations at the beginning of January 2017, theReforma Pemex set sail in late November from the Barrera Shipyard in Vigo, Spain to the Gulf of Mexico, where it will host up to 700 PEMEX personnel working on offshore platforms in the Campeche area.
TheReforma Pemex is 131 m (430 ft) in length with a beam of 27 m (89 ft). With a service speed of 12 knots and DP-3 capability, it is fitted with a “walk-to-work” motion compensated gangway system that enables transfer of workers between the offshore platforms and accommodation vessel.
Sister vessel theOrgullo Petrolero is currently completing sea trials and crew familiarization training at the Navantia Shipyard in El Ferrol, Spain, and is expected to be delivered at the beginning of 2017.
