DRACHTEN, the Netherlands – SMST will supply two additional 100-ton knuckle boom cranes for four subsea support vessels (SSVs) under construction for Maersk Supply Service at COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard in China.
The delivery is in addition two previous SMST knuckle boom cranes ordered by main contractorHuisman, which is supplying four 400-ton hybrid boom cranes for the vessels, built to Marin Teknik’s MT 6027 design. They are scheduled for delivery in 1Q/2Q 2017.
The 100-ton cranes feature an active heave compensation that is claimed to allow the vessels to perform subsea work in a large weather window. They are designed for wide-ranging deck, offshore and subsea operations in up to 3,000 m (9,842 ft).
According to SMST, they provide a low center of gravity, minimal use of deck space, and limited power consumption. The design is also said to facilitate efficient installation and commissioning of the crane onboard thevessels.
