OSLO, Norway – SeaBird Exploration Plc has entered into a contract with an unnamed company to purchase the Hawk Explorer 2D-source vessel and its seismic equipment.
TheHawk Explorerhas been a chartered vessel in the SeaBird fleet since 2006, after it was converted to a seismic vessel in the Nauta shipyard in Gdynia, Poland.
Under the purchase agreement, SeaBird will pay $1.1 million for the vessel and seismic equipment as well as the cancellation of all future lease payments and additional obligations as required under the charter agreement.
In March, SeaBird extended the vessel's contract from May 31 to February 28, 2017. At that time, the company said it would have the option to purchase the vessel and related equipment for $1.75 million.
Originally built in Norway 1984, the Nauta shipyard says that, before conversion, it was originally a shrimp trawler. It is 66 m (217 ft) long with a transit speed of 11.05 knots. The long-offset vessel features Seal ALS streamers; a Sercel Seal 408XL, 2000ch recording system; and streamer lengths of 12,000 m (39,370 ft).
