COLLEGE STATION, TXTDI-Brooks has expanded its geotechnical vessel fleet with the R/V Nautilus, a 75-m-long DP2 vessel built in 2000.

Following a six-month retrofit in Las Palmas, the Canaries, the vessel departed late last month for the US East Coast to provide support for offshore wind operations.

It is equipped with the newly acquired Geomiil Manta-200 cone penetration tester, which can be deployed through the vessel’s mid-ship moonpool. The system is designed to penetrate soils up to 40-50 m thick, depending on the composition.

The vessel should be ready for its first offshore wind program by early March. It will be available to also support subsea services, construction assistance, exploration and production, AUVs, ROVs and diving.

The MCK-1240 upper forecastle deck on the starboard side includes a SWL 7.1-ton crane. Other equipment includes Neptune 3K & 5K vibracorers and a pneumatic vibracorer designed by TDI-Brooks.

In addition, a Teledyne RESON full ocean depth multi-beam echosounder can be used for surface geochemical “seep-hunting” and seabed heatflow surveys.
