COPENHAGEN, Denmark  Stillstrom, a spin-off company from the A.P. Moller Maersk Group developed by Maersk Supply Service, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UK support vessel operator North Star on the adoption of offshore charging and vessel electrification technologies for service operation vessels (SOVs) in the offshore wind sector.

Under the MoU, Stillstrom will apply its charging solutions so North Star’s vessels can recharge their battery systems using wind energy while offshore, with North providing insights into the vessel integration operation.

Last summer, Stillstrom and Port of Aberdeen conducted a joint feasibility study into an offshore renewable charging hub at the port allowing vessels to use electricity from either offshore wind or grid-energy, avoiding the need to consume fossil fuels while idling.
