MADRID, Spain  Navantia Shiprepairs Ferrol Estuary in northern Spain is upgrading the jackup platform Brave Tern for owner Fred Olsen Windcarrier.

Brave Tern will be modified to increase its capacity for installing wind turbine generators and associated equipment at offshore wind farms.

This year’s initial phase focuses on material procurement, engineering development and prefabrication, with a second phase of work onboard the vessel following its arrival at the yard during late 2023 to early 2024.

Navantia anticipates a yard stay of about seven months, with around half of that time in drydock. Work will be performed partly alongside a repair berth and partly in drydock, both at the yard’s Fene and Ferrol facilities.
