NEW YORK CITY – Rig contracting activity has slowed down in September, according to Evercore ISI’s latest Offshore Rig Market Snapshot.

A total of 15 rig contracts have been announced for eight rig-years so far in September, with 10 floaters contracts accounting for 5.3 years and five jackup contracts totaling 2.3 rig years, according to the report.

The average term for floaters shortened to six to seven months from 14 months in August, which saw six floaters contracted for term in the US GoM (three), Brazil, Namibia, and Norway.

Only two floaters have been contracted for term thus far in September, with Transocean’s seventh-generation drillship Deepwater Asgard contracted for the US GoM at a leading edge $440,000/day while the fourth-generation semisubmersible Blackford Dolphin will move to Nigeria for $233,000/day following completion of a Pemex contract at $159,000/day.

The report also noted that about $3 billion worth of floater contracts could be imminently awarded by Petrobras from its recent multi-lot tender for up to eight rigs.
