The F-class is an adapted version of the NG-20000X model, designed by NOV subsidiary GustoMSC as a hybrid wind turbine/foundation installation jackup.
According to NOV, the F-Class and GustoMSC X-class, self-propelled jackup vessels are also the largest on the market, with 5,600 sq m of deck space and a carrying capacity of more than 17,600 t.
However, the F-Class has a larger main crane capacity and is designed for a fast-track conversion from a foundation to a wind turbine installation vessel. It can transport and install up to six XL monopiles per roundtrip.
The vessel will have an NOV variable speed drive rack and pinion jacking system, which will include a regenerative power arrangement under which the generated power is redirected into the vessel system, leading to fuel savings and emissions cuts.
Cadeler is negotiating an XL monopile foundation installation contract in the North Sea, with installation set to start in spring 2026.
