HOUSTON – Arabian Drilling Co. has contracted Siemens to provide a comprehensive set of integrated drilling-drives, including auxiliaries and controls, for installation on a jackup drilling rig assigned to duties in the Middle East.

The upgrade should also allow the client to comply with the latest safety standards. Delivery of the new system is due early next year.

Siemens’ work scope includes engineering, design, manufacturing, and delivery of the equipment which is based on its BlueDrive technology.

The Master2Blue solution will employ the footprint, cable network, and communication principles of the existing system, allowing fast, modular-style installation, commissioning, and startup, the company said. It features a DC power grid that includes power electronics, controls, and cooling of 10 integrated variable speed drives.
