Phase 3 of Sakarya gas project advances with subsea systems and EPCI contracts
Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) and Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) have commissioned Baker Hughes to provide subsea production and intelligent completion systems for the Phase 3 deepwater Sakarya gas field development in the Black Sea.
Baker Hughes will supply deepwater horizontal tree systems with associated subsea structures and control systems to enable production at subsurface depths from 6,500 ft, the company announced Sept. 11.
The intelligent upper and lower completions systems should deliver multi-zonal control of subsurface operations, the company added.
Baker Hughes has been working with TPAO and TP-OTC on Sakarya since development started in 2022. The company’s GaffneyCline energy advisory team has provided reservoir and technology evaluations to address the field’s unusual subsurface geology.
In addition, Baker Hughes has delivered lower completions solutions to optimize production in thin-layered reservoirs, which it says are typical of those found in the Black Sea.
Phase 3 completions technologies will include InForce HCMTM-A interval control valves, SureTREAT chemical injection valves, SureSENS QPT ELITE gauges, REACH subsurface safety valves and the SC-XPTM Select Zero Loss stack-pack system.
All will be integrated with the subsea production systems.
Under an EPCI contract from TP-OTC, Saipem said in a Sept. 10 press release that it also will continue its involvement in the development by engineering and installing the Phase 3 flowlines and export trunkline.
Saipem’s flagship Castorone vessel will perform the installations during 2027.
Sakarya is 170 km offshore Filyos, Zonguldak. Under the project’s third phase, a new floating production unit will be connected to 27 wells at the Sakarya and Amasra fields, with production exported to a new onshore complex in Filyos via a new subsea trunkline.
Saipem’s workscope, valued at about $1.5 billion, covers eight rigid flowlines and the 183-km-long, 24-inch diameter gas export pipeline (GEP), in a maximum water depth of 2,200 m.
Last month TP-OTC awarded the EPCI contract for the Phase 3 SURF facilities to Subsea7, which the company is managing from its offices in Istanbul.
