Mehran Amir Moeini, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Export Co., told news service Shana that an Iranian delegation was due to visit Oman to conclude the framework of cooperation.
The two countries have held talks on and off since 2004 on the project under which Iran would send gas through a subsea pipeline to Oman for conversion to LNG, which would then receive be marketed by the National Iranian Oil Co.
One reason for the delay had been the lack of spare capacity in Iran to inject sufficient gas volumes into the pipeline, but that has changed following the inauguration of several new phases of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.
Following finalization and signature of the cooperation framework between the two countries, tenders will be issued to select the project’s contractor, Moeini said.
