LEIDEN, The Netherlands -- Installation of the flowlines and risers at BP's Atlantis in the Gulf of Mexico was completed on Sept. 2, according to Heerema Marine Contractors. The installation, which began in April 2006, was done using Here's Balder crane barge.

There are six in-field flowlines plus the risers. The pipe-in-pipe system was installed in 2,000 m (6,562 ft) of water.

"The Atlantis Pipe-in-Pipe Flowline Project was the most challenging project I have worked on," says Wendell Freeman, HMC project manager. "The offshore success started with a solid onshore foundation and was followed up by outstanding execution."

Three year's of engineering and fabrication of new equipment for theBalder went into the project, Heerema says.
