Second Subsea 7 pipelayer nears completion

Subsea 7's new deepwater construction vessel Seven Seas is undergoing outfitting in Rotterdam, following its launch from the Merwede shipyard early this month.

ABERDEEN, UK --Subsea 7's new deepwater construction vessel Seven Seas is undergoing outfitting in Rotterdam, following its launch from the Merwede shipyard early this month.

On completion of this work, the vessel's pipelay spread will be fitted. It will be capable of installing flexible pipe using a vertical lay system, and rigid pipe via the J-lay method, using the same tower. Huisman-Itrec in Schiedam is responsible for design and manufacture of this equipment.

Merwede previously built theSeven Oceans pipelayer for Subsea 7. Following completion of sea trials, that vessel will move to the Gulf of Mexico to start work on Chevron's Blind Faith development.
