STAVANGER, Norway –The Tordis subsea production facility has left Grendland Group's Tønsberg yard heading for installation in the North Sea.

Tordis is the world's heaviest subsea template, requiring assistance from,Saipem 7000 for installation.

"Once installed on the seabed, it will be tied back to the Gullfaks C platform with pipelines and control cables," says Hans Kristiansen, project manager. "When everything is tested and ready, we'll turn the start key for the world's first subsea separator."

Tordis will be the first subsea installation to separate water and sand from oil wells and to pump them downhole without a trip to the surface.
