HOUSTON -- Saipem has contracted BMT Scientific Marine Services Inc. to provide a tension monitoring system for two single leg risers associated with FPSOs offshore West Africa.

The main function of the riser tension monitoring system (RTMS) is to provide a drift-free, long-term assessment of the buoyancy force that stabilizes the tower, BMT explains. Strain sensors will be placed between the riser top assembly and the buoyancy module.

Each RTMS will include the company’s subsea strain sensing assemblies, subsea data acquisition & acoustic communication modules and riser tower mounted receptacles, jumpers between the two, plus FPSO-based acoustic communication and recording hardware as well as monitoring software.

The strain sensors can be serviced using an ROV.
