NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, UK -- SMD has won a contract from Subsea 7 division i-Tech to supply 20 QX-Ultra work class ROVs, with options for up to a further 10.

Subsea 7 will deploy the vehicles offshore Brazil for Petrobras. SMD says this is its largest ROV order to date – the company has been supplying Subsea 7 with work class ROVs for over four years.

SMD describes the QX-Ultra series as an evolution of the mid-size Centurion QX WROV it designed and built for i-Tech. The new range employs Curvetech components and technologies, many from SMD’s newest vehicle Atom.

Under the same contract, SMD will design and manufacture the vehicles’ A-frame and winch systems. The company says it is the only manufacturer with the ability to design and manufacture work class ROV launch equipment.
