NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, UK – Shell Upstream Europe has awarded Technip subsidiary Duco a seven-year framework agreement contract for the supply of umbilicals in the North Sea.

The contract scope covers engineering, procurement, project management, and associated services for fabrication and load-out of thermoplastic umbilicals up to 17 km (10.6 mi) long. Mainly, the contract provisions will service Shell’s marginal “SWEEP” gas prospects in the southern North Sea, but there will also be requirements for central North Sea fields.

Technip says combined projects will require on average over 15-30 km/yr (9.3-18.6 mi/yr) of thermoplastic umbilicals, based on planning estimates for 2011-2017. Duco will manufacture all the umbilical systems and thermoplastic hoses at its plant in northeast England.
