(Aberdeen) Maersk Oil North Sea UK has clinched government approval for the Affleck field development in UK block 30/19a. The program calls for two subsea horizontal producer wells tied back to the Janice floating production unit in block 30/17a, with modifications on the platform to allow it to process and export Affleck's production fluids.
Development drilling should start in November, with first oil expected towards the end of next year. Affleck's oil will be sent through Janice's export pipeline to the Norpipe transportation system. Associated gas will be routed through a new spur line to the Clyde platform – operated by Affleck partner Talisman – then onward to St Fergus via the Segal system. Maersk acquired its interests in Janice and Affleck earlier this year from previous operator Kerr-McGee.
