HOUSTON --GE Oil & Gas has won a technology award at the OTC for the VetcoGray SemStar5 subsea electronics module.

The SemStar5 is a fifth-generation subsea electronic module for use in production control systems. According to GE, the module's design provides new levels of communication capabilities with infrastructure to support higher bandwidth requirements.

Enhanced reliability is achieved with thermal management and modeling integral to the design, on-board diagnostics and fault tolerant I/O. The mechanical construction exceeds shock, vibration, and temperature-cycle requirements of ISO 13628-6 2006. It also has open architecture access, modular TCP/IP backplane architecture, support for standard industry interfaces, and obsolescence mitigation, says GE.
