Pipeline Technnique, Heerema select Aerogel insulation for Cascade-Chinook

SAN ANTONIO --Cabot Corp's Aerogel will show its Nanogel Compression Pack at the Subsea Tieback Forum in San Antonio March 3-5. Pipeline Technique Ltd. and Heerema Marine Contractors have selected Cabot Aerogel to insulate a 39-km (24-mi) long subsea pipeline in deepwater Gulf of Mexico for Petrobras America Inc.

The pipeline will be part of the Cascade-Chinook development in Walker Ridge block 425 in water depths from 2,440 to 2,680 m (8,000 to 8,800 ft).

The 9-in in 14-in (23-cm in 36-cm) pipe-in-pipe tieback will use Nanogel aerogel insulation in PTL flowlines installed using a J-lay from Heerema'sBalder, says Cabot.
