STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil (OSE:STL) has entered into a contract with Vestbase for a Norwegian onshore complex to support the Åsgard subsea compression project.
This is designed to increase recovery from the Mikkel and Midgard fields in the Norwegian Sea by about 280 MMboe. Statoil plans to install the compressors and associated seabed equipment on theÅsgard field during fall 2014 with start-up the following year.
The new complex will be adapted for maintenance of the process equipment. It will comprise three new buildings, a mechanical workshop, a hall for storage and offices, and washing facilities.
The buildings will be designed to handle heavy equipment internally, with some of the components weighing up to 400 metric tons (441 tons). Height of the roof will be roughly 32 m (105 ft) with a door opening of 25 m (82 ft).
Thesubsea compression system will have to be run in a way that ensures the highest possible regularity for the Åsgard field, so the base must be equipped for fast, efficient response. A third compressor train and associated modules, equipment and tools will be stored on the base for quick shipment if needed.
