OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has sanctioned continued use of the subsea production facility on the Vigdis oil field in the North Sea.
The consent, which extends to the associated risers and pipelines, allows the equipment to remain in service beyond its original design life, up to expiry of the production license in 2024.
Vigdis is in block 34/7 in the northern Norwegian North Sea, between the Snorre and Gullfaks complexes in a water depth of 280 m (919 ft). Statoil developed the field in 1995 with two subsea templates tied in to the Snorre A facility.
The project was expanded in 2002 and 2006 withnew subsea templates and wells, and another subsea template is currently under construction. Additional prospects have been defined in the area which may be tied in to existing infrastructure, if discoveries result.
Consent is based on a review of design life studies prepared for the subsea facility by external consultants.
