MILAN, Italy -- Burullus Gas Co. has awarded Saipem a contract for the subsea development of the Sequoia field, which straddles both the Rosetta and West Delta Deep Marine Concessions offshore from the Nile River Delta, about 130 km (81 mi) northeast of Alexandria, Egypt.

The contract encompasses engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning (EPIC) of the subsea development system of Sequoia, in water depths between 70 and 570 m (230-1,870 ft). It also includes a new 22-in. (56-cm) gas-export pipeline. The marine activities will be carried out mainly by Saipem's specialized FDS vessel and will use both J-lay and S-lay to match the operational environment.

The work will be completed in the second half of 2009.

Saipem said this contract in conjunction with an award by Total E&P Angola for injection of two oil depleted reservoirs offshore the Angolan shore, was worth a total of $600 million.
