DAVIS, California –In a first, Germanischer Lloyd has certified Schilling Robotics Kiel 6000 work-class ROV for environmental and safety. The ROV is depth rated to 6,000 m (19,685 ft).
"The certification of ROVs is not regulated uniformly on an international level," says Herald Pauli, head of Pressure and Underwater Technology at GL. "However, plant operators are under an obligation to protect their staff against any hazards arising from the operation of technical equipment. Of the underwater vehicles we have certified, the Kiel 6000 is the most complex and sophisticated ROV which we have dealt with."
