LONDON – ONGC has awarded GE Oil & Gas a frame agreement to provide an estimated 55 subsea wellheads over the next three years.
These will support the operator’s drilling campaign in shallow to medium watersoffshore India.
GE Oil & Gas has supplied subsea production equipment to ONGC for more than 30 years, including large-sized conductors, subsea wellheads, and subsea trees for its offshore drilling and completion projects.
Since ONGC began deepwater drilling a decade ago, GE has also supplied subsea wellheads used by the company to drill two of the deepest wells in the world to date, in water depths of 3,174 m (10,413 ft) and 3,165 m (10,384 ft).
Ashish Bhandari, CEO of South Asia at GE Oil & Gas, said: “With India’s new energy policy and gas pricing policy in place we are seeing an uptick in ONGC’s exploration and development activity.”
The first wellhead under the contract will be supplied this fall, with GE manufacturing part of the scope inIndia for the first time - in Kakinada - with engineering and project management support from regional teams in Singapore.
GE has also established a manufacturing facility in Pune.
Earlier this year the company won a contract to supply of subsea production systems to ONGC’s Vashishta (VA) and S-1 fields, off the Amalapuram coast in the KG basin. This is ONGC’s firstdeepwater development in India.
