RIDING MILL, UK – Osbit has delivered new well intervention equipment to Helix Energy Solutions for installation on the chartered vessel Siem Helix 1 in Schiedam, the Netherlands.
This was one of a series of projects awarded to Osbit last year involving around £11 million ($14.5 million) of equipment for theSiem Helix 1, Siem Helix 2, and Q7000vessels.
The current consignment, weighing more than 300 tons, comprises a BOP maintenance and storage tower, an intervention tension frame (ITF) and moveable deck.
All will be installed on theSiem Helix 1 this week, ahead of the vessel’s deployment on a long-term well intervention services charter for Petrobras offshore Brazil.
A second suite of identical systems will follow later in the year for theSiem Helix 2.
Osbit says the maintenance tower provides a safe environment to assemble and maintain subsea equipment. It incorporates a 125-metric ton (138-ton) capacity lifting system to enable progressive assembly of stack modules.
The ITF, developed in collaboration with Helix, has three platform levels for personnel to conduct operations using dedicated skidding systems.
A telescopic gangway, also designed and built by Osbit, is said to ensure continuous safe access. The gangway links the ITF to the maintenance tower, dispensing with the need for engineers to use rope access methods to operate the well intervention systems mounted within the ITF.
The moveable deck, which will be installed adjacent to the maintenance tower, is a specialised mezzanine deck providing an additional support and work area over the vessel’s moonpool.
