SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – The OPC Foundation (OPCF) has assumed ownership of the MCS-DCS Interface Standardization (MDIS) specification.

This is now freely available for adoption by any interested party, with a working group, co-chaired by Markus Koenig from SubSea, Tim Fortin from Honeywell, and Paul Hunkar from DS Interoperability, overseeing maintenance and expansion of the standard.

The aim behind MDIS has been to optimize and standardize communications between subsea Master Control Stations (MCSs) and topside Distributed Control Systems (DCSs).

According to the OPCF, a standardized MCS-DCS interface simplifies implementation of data communications and improves data quality, with companies adopting the MDIS standard benefiting from simplified integration and commissioning of the MCS–DCS interface; reduced maintenance; and a lessened risk of interface failures that lead to downtime and the need for costly subsea equipment repairs.
