OSLO, NorwayNeptune Energy has approval from the Norwegian authorities to start-up a subsea installation with two new wells on the Gjøa field P1 segment in the North Sea.

Neptune Energy expects the NOK4-billion ($465-million) development to add 15 MMboe of production through Gjøa’s semisubmersible platform, located off the coast of Florø.

A four-slot well template has been put installed and both wells have been drilled. Neptune anticipates start-up next month.

Director of Projects and Engineering in Norway, Erik Oppedal, said: “The Gjøa P1 development will enable us to recover significant quantities of oil and gas by drilling new wells in deeper-lying reservoirs.”

It will also strengthen Gjøa’s position as a hub in the northern Norwegian North Sea, he added, further extending the operating life of the platform.
