WALLSEND, UK – PTSC GEOS & Subsea Services, a subsidiary of Petrovietnam Technical Services Corp., has contracted Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD) to supply a Quasar II, mid-size work-class ROV.

This is the second Quasar of its type ordered by PTSC within the past decade, and is due to be delivered next February.

According to SMD, the Quasar II is designed for offshore survey, construction, and drill support operations. It will work alongside the existing SMD ROV on fields offshore Southeast Asia, performing a range of operations in water depths of up to 2,500 m (8,202 ft).

PTSC G&S has also commissioned certain tooling capabilities, a survey pod, and other instruments, and the ROV will be connected to an SMD tether management system.

In addition, SMD will make available its simulator to allow the ROV operators to train and rehearse for various subsea scenarios ahead of the actual offshore launching of the vehicle.
