Bollinger Shipyards Inc. has scheduled an early 2009 delivery of a new dry-dock for its Bollinger Fourchon LLC shipyard at Port Fourchon.

Of the company’s 13 shipyards along the Louisiana-Texas Gulf Coast, the Fourchon facility has been the only one without the benefit of a dry-dock, say company officials. However, it has provided quick service for the dockside requirements of deepwater multipurpose offshore supply vessels (OSV); mobile drilling units, including larger jackup and matted rigs; and other drilling and production support vessels. The yard offers 24/7 “in and out” topside repair services performed by highly skilled maintenance personnel.

The new shipbuilding and repair dry-dock is made up of a 292 x 82-ft (89 x 25-m) dock with 25-ft (7.6-m) wing walls and a lift capacity of up to 5,000 tons (4,536 metric tons) It is under construction at a sister Bollinger company in Carlyss, Louisiana, Bollinger Calcasieu Repair.

“To serve Bollinger’s diverse and growing customer base, we saw the need for the dry-dock at Port Fourchon,” says Robert A. Socha, the parent company’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “The company currently owns more than 40 dry-docks, ranging in capacity from 100 to 22,000 tons (91 to 19,958 metric tons). We are adding the Port Fourchon dry-dock as part of an ongoing expansion program there. We increased our crane capacity and will soon add additional crane capacity, along with new equipment for latest-technology shipbuilding.”

The Port Fourchon yard specializes in repair and topside maintenance of a wide variety of ships, workboats, barges and rigs with drafts of up to 27 ft (8.2 m). As with all Bollinger shipyards, the Fourchon facility is ISO 9001:2000 certified.
