ONGC has handed Shelf Drilling a three-year contract for the jackup J.T. Angel, with an estimated value of about $40 million.

The rig is undergoing preparations for the program, which is due to start in October.

Shelf Drilling CEO Greg O’Brien said, “The contract reflects the near-term competitive environment in India… and we remain confident in its long-term fundamentals.”

The company has, however, opted to dispose of the Trident XII jackup, which completed a drilling contract with ONGC earlier this year and is currently stacked in India. It will be sold for non-drilling purposes.

In other news, Shelf Drilling reported earlier this week that it gained a five-year extension to the contract for the High Island V jackup rig.

In the company's recent status update released in May, it said High Island II and Shelf Drilling Victory arrived in West Africa in April, and the former was scheduled to start a two-well contract in May. And Petrobel Egypt extended Trident 16’s contract until August 2025.
