Friede & Goldman to work with Dalian Shipbuilding on new semisubmersible rig design

Nov. 20, 2024
The latest rig design will be specifically tailored to meet criteria for operations in Chinese waters.

Friede & Goldman (F&G) says that it has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co., Ltd (DSOC), to advance F&G’s latest semisubmersible rig design. That design will be specifically tailored to meet the criteria for safe and efficient operations in Chinese waters.

The initial phase of the partnership will introduce the newly developed ExD 1000M to the market. This design features F&G’s rig arrangements and mooring system setup, which F&G says offers rig owners station-keeping capability and operational flexibility. Initially targeted for the Chinese market, the ExD 1000M is also applicable to worldwide operations, F&G says.

By combining DSOC’s experience in semisubmersible construction with F&G’s design expertise, this collaboration aims to maximize rig performance and address both current and future market trends.

The companies say that the ExD 1000M has been developed in partnership with leading Chinese drilling equipment vendors to provide a turnkey solution for clients at competitive pricing.
