OSLO, NorwayTrident Energy and its partners have agreed to terminate the contract of the Island Innovator semisub, which started a drilling campaign last month on Block G offshore Equatorial Guinea.

According to Panoro Energy, the co-venturers decided that the rig was operationally not in a condition to safely drill the wells. Trident will now assess alternative options to resume and safely complete the program, potentially during the second quarter, subject to rig availability.

Island Innovator arrived in Equatorial Guinea last October for a program of two workovers on existing wells and three infill wells. It was then due to drill the Akeng Deep prospect for Kosmos Energy in offshore Block S.
