Maersk names newbuild at Jurong Shipyard

Maersk Contractors named its latest newbuild drilling rig from Jurong Shipyard Pte. Ltd. on Saturday, May 12. The new rig was officially named the Maersk Completer at a ceremony in Singapore.

SINGAPORE -- Maersk Contractors named its latest newbuild drilling rig from Jurong Shipyard Pte. Ltd. on Saturday, May 12. The new rig was officially named the Maersk Completer at a ceremony in Singapore.

"TheMaersk Completer is the first delivery in a newbuilding program of nine high-capacity drilling rigs, which will join our fleet over the next three years," says Claus V. Hemmingsen, CEO of Maersk Contractors. "The delivery of Maersk Completer is part of our endeavor to expand the fleet and remain at the forefront of development within safety, efficiency and innovation".

The Baker Pacific Class 375 designMaersk Completer is the first of two identical jackup rigs acquired by the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group in July 2006. The rig is capable of operating in water depths to 375 ft (114.3 m) in most parts of the world, including the harsh environment of the central and southern parts of the North Sea.

TheMaersk Completer's first assignment is a one-year drilling contract with an option to extend the contract for another 15 months, with Total E&P Borneo on Total's Maharaja Lela field offshore Brunei.
