PPL to build fourth jackup for Offshore Group

SINGAPORE -- PPL Shipyard has won a contract to build a $198-million deepwater jackup rig for Offshore Group Corp.

Construction of the Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 jackup is to begin in 3Q 2007 with delivery scheduled for Dec. 2009. This jackup is the fourth for Offshore Group, PPL says. The first unit was delivered in Oct. 2006, the second in Jan. 2007, and the third in June 2007.

The jackup is equipped to drill high-pressure/high-temperature wells to 30,000 ft (9,144 m) and will operate in 375 ft (114 m) water depth.
