MONGSTAD, NorwayPSW Group and Wergeland Holding have signed an agreement on commercializing a new drydock in western Norway for accommodating drilling rigs.

The accord covers a wide range of activities related to inspection, repair and maintenance of drilling rigs, drillships, accommodation/support rigs and vessels.

Construction of the new drydock is under way in Gulen Industrial Harbor and should be completed in 2020.

There is an option to extend the original length of 200 m (656 ft) by a further 100 m (328 ft). This, combined with a width of more than 100 m and depth of 25 m (82 ft), will make the dock the largest of its kind in Europe, PSW claimed, capable of handling all varieties of drilling vessels and rigs.

PSW has been offering yard services with Wergeland at Gulen for several years. The new ‘PSW Yard’ will provide full access to rigs/vessels from three sides, which should lead to reduced maintenance durations or fast yard stays.

The facility’s depth and 20-hr pumping time should facilitate safe and efficient access to components such as thrusters and hulls, PSW added.
