Oil tanker strikes ENSCO 74 sunken hull

The oil tanker SKS Satilla has struck the sunken hull of the jackup ENSCO 74 in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the US Coast Guard.

DALLAS -- The oil tanker SKS Satilla has struck the sunken hull of the jackup ENSCO 74 in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the US Coast Guard. The jackup was lost during Hurricane Ike last September.

The Coast Guard has advised Ensco Internationl that the oil tanker reportedly suffered damage to its ballast tanks and was listing slightly, but its cargo tanks were not ruptured.ENSCO 74 reportedly is submerged in 115 ft (35 m) of water approximately 65 mi (105 km) south of Galveston.
