HAMILTON, Bermuda -- Seadrill has taken delivery of the new deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig West Eminence from the Samsung Shipyard in South Korea. The unit will leave Korean waters today, en route to its first drilling assignment in Brazil.
The semi is chartered by Petrobras under a six-year contract for operations in the Santos basin. First spud is expected in June.
West Eminence is a sixth-generation, high specification, deepwater semisubmersible drilling unit. The rig is designed with a dynamic positioning system and a water depth capacity of up to 3,000 m (9,843 ft).
