ABERDEEN, UK --Subsea 7 has contracted the Merwede shipyard in The Netherlands for a new pipelay construction vessel.
The ship will be 133-m (436-ft) long, with a beam of 24 m (79 ft). It will incorporate a pipelay spread for installing flexible flowlines and umbilicals which will include a vertical lay system tower, twin under-deck carousels, a 250-ton (227-metric ton) crane from Huisman-Itrec and two ROVS rated for 3,000 m (9,842 ft) water depth.
Delivery is due in summer 2010. Between 2006 and 2008, Subsea 7 has invested over $1 billion in new vessels and new equipment, with seven vessels set to join the company's fleet during 2007-09.
