LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands — Fugro has staged a naming ceremony for a new geotechnical vessel equipped with deepwater technology. Fugro Quest’s initial assignment will be at Vattenfall’s wind farm in the southern UK North Sea, close to the Norfolk coats.
The design of the vessel is said to provide improved personnel and operational safety, and lower fuel consumption compared with other ships. It can in operate in waters up to 2,000 m deep.
Onboard equipment includes a WISON Mk V Ecodrive, SEACALF Mk V Deep Drive system, coring systems and soil-testing laboratory facilities. Remote positioning and fast data-processing capabilities, Fugro added, allow clients to access acquired data in near-real time from the cloud.
Dennis Koenen, service line director for geotechnics in Europe and Africa, said, “Fugro Quest…is hybrid ready, comes with automatic handling of tubulars and geotechnical tools, and has the latest IT capabilities onboard to safely carry out operations across the globe. Bookings until July 2023 are already in place...”
