DELFT, the Netherlands — Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit has sailed to Stord, western Norway to deliver multiple facilities removed from the Valhall Field complex in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
The vessel removed and delivered the 5,800-metric-ton DP topsides in May to the Aker Solutions yard in Stord.
Preparations started yesterday at the site to prepare Allseas’ barge Iron Lady for transfer and load-in of the 14,100-metric-ton PCP topsides. The 3,000-metric-ton DP jacket and two bridges were due to be loaded directly onto the quayside. For the first time, Pioneering Spirit deployed its topsides lift and new jacket lift systems in a single campaign.
Initially the vessel removed the PCP bridges, followed by the DP jacket, after final leg cutting by supporting vessel Oceanic. Removal of the PCP topsides took place a day later on June 7. The Valhall campaign falls under a frame agreement Allseas signed with Valhall operator Aker BP in 2017 to provide transport, installation and removal services on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Pioneering Spirit removed the accommodation platform (QP) topsides in 2019 and the jacket in 2021. Replacing the three original structures (QP, DP and PCP) is part of the modernization of the Valhall Field center.
Future campaigns for the vessel will involve removal of the PCP jacket, the unmanned Hod A platform 13 km to the south of Valhall and the 2/4-G jacket on the ConocoPhillips-operated Ekofisk Field 24 km to the north.
