SHARJAH, UAELamprell has conducted a review of its fabrication capacity in the UAE, based on mid-term requirements.

The company has mothballed the facility at Jebel Ali. The Sharjah complex is still working on the Moray East project, but this too will be closed once the work has been completed later in the year.

Lamprell’s largest yard, Hamriyah, continues to operate, offering expansion opportunities should additional space be needed.

These actions, the company said, would allow it to gradually increase fabrication volumes while at the same time improving efficiency and lowering the group’s cost base.

In addition, the company has put in place a program to screen and protect its workforce, clients, and contractors on site as a result of the coronavirus.

Engineering and fabrication activities at Hamriyah and Sharjah have so far been moderately affected by lockdown and social distancing measures in the UAE.

However, all works, including the two International Maritime Industries drilling rigs and the Moray East project, continue with the first jackets delivered to the client on time and on budget.

Bidding activity continues for new oil and gas and renewable energy projects but there are signs of deceleration and delays in some awards, Lamprell added.
