Ventyr contracts DNV to certify Norway’s first offshore wind farm
DNV says that it has been awarded a contract by offshore wind developer Ventyr for the design certification of the Sørlige Nordsjø II wind turbines and offshore substation — Norway’s first bottom-fixed offshore wind farm.
Located in the southern North Sea, near the maritime border with Denmark, Sørlige Nordsjø II is said to be located within one of Norway’s flagship offshore wind areas.
Sørlige Nordsjø II (SNII) is the first major offshore wind project on the Norwegian continental shelf. It is being developed by Ventyr, a consortium between JERA Nex through our wholly owned subsidiary Parkwind, and Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer.
SNII will consist of an estimated 60-100 wind turbines with a total capacity of 1.5GW, and an almost 200 km HVDC-link, connecting the offshore wind farm with the existing substation in Kvinesdal in the south of Norway.
The development area spans approximately 520 square kilometers and is located 200 km from the from the Norwegian south-west coast.
“Sørlige Nordsjø II marks a historic step forward for Norway’s offshore wind ambitions, and we are proud to partner with DNV to ensure the project meets the highest standards from the outset,” says Wim Verrept, Project Director at Ventyr. “Robust certification is essential to delivering safe and sustainable offshore wind infrastructure, and DNV’s experience and technical rigor make them a natural partner for this landmark development.”
