The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has decided to extend permits for two operational offshore wind farms, as requested by the co-venturers.
Nysted Offshore Wind Farm south of Lolland and Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm in the Sound will now be able to continue generating electricity for a further 10 years and 25 years.
They are among Denmark’s longest-established wind farms; Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm’s original electricity production license was awarded in 2000, and Nysted’s three years later.
In support of its decisions, the DEA requested an impartial analysis to be conducted of the remaining lifespans, and the owners must now perform an annual extended service inspection.
Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm, owned by HOFOR and Middelgrundens Vindmøllelaug, comprises 20 turbines supplying power to the Copenhagen and North Zealand regions.
Earlier this month, the DEA approved a 10-year extension of the electricity production permit for the Samsø Offshore Wind Farm.
