Bidding opened for floating offshore wind at Utsira Nord

The Norwegian Energy Ministry has opened a competition for three project areas for floating offshore wind at Utsira Nord offshore Rogaland, southwest Norway.

The Norwegian Energy Ministry has opened a competition for three project areas for floating offshore wind at Utsira Nord offshore Rogaland, southwest Norway.

Deadline for applications is Sept. 15.

The allocation of project areas and state financial assistance aid will be done in two stages. In the first, the three project areas will be awarded to the applicants that score highest based on the following criteria: cost levels, realism and maturity; innovation and technological development; execution capability; sustainability; and positive ripple effects

Each project area may have an installed floating offshore wind capacity of up to 500 MW. To participate in the state aid auction, applicants must have submitted a license application and provided a bank guarantee for participation.

One applicant will be awarded state aid; the winner will be the bidder with the lowest support requirement to deliver their project, which should be as close as possible to 500 MW, depending on the selected turbine size.
