Inyanga Marine Energy Group has contracted Hutchinson Engineering to fabricate its HydroWing tidal energy structure.
The 20-MW HydroWing tidal energy array will be installed at Morlais off the island of Anglesey, north Wales. It is one of Europe’s largest consented tidal energy projects.
Hutchinson will fabricate the steel foundation frame and rear nacelle in Cheshire, northwest England, followed by final assembly at the quayside in Wales. It will also perform welding, painting and coating to a specification that can withstand the harsh underwater conditions.
The foundation frame, with a weight of 120 tons, will deliver an energy yield of 1.2 MW and should last for 25 years. The nacelle will be 19 m tall.
Inyanga is aiming to deploy its first tidal energy prototype early in 2026.
