MOL agrees to join Fengmiao I wind project offshore Taiwan

The Fengmiao I wind farm offshore Taiwan is expected to be completed in 2027.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has entered an agreement to sell a 10% interest in the 4,950-MW Fengmiao I wind farm offshore Taiwan to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).

This is CIP’s third offshore wind project in Taiwan, located off the coast of Taichung County. Development started in 2020, with site exclusivity and grid allocation secured in late 2022 under Taiwan’s Round 3.1 auction.

Construction for the project started in March 2025, with the development set to be completed by the end of 2027. Six local and international energy users have long-term power purchase agreements for the project’s full power generating capacity.

MOL is a Japanese shipping company that operates about 900 vessels, with various other offshore and energy businesses. Following closing of the transaction, CIP will remain the controlling shareholder and operator of Fengmiao I.

In late April, LAUTEC said it was awarded a consultancy framework agreement for inspection services for Fengmiao I. The company's work scope includes providing fabrication supervisors, quality inspectors and HSE inspectors to oversee fabrication and construction quality throughout the manufacturing phase, ensuring that all components related to foundations and offshore cables as well as the construction of the onshore substation meet industry standards and regulations.
